2009 San Diego County Fair Ribbon cutting
Woo-hoo! Today was THE day, the San Diego County Fair is finally here. So in true Media & Marketing manner, I was here at the Fairgrounds at 4:30 a.m., working it with the local News Media and helping them out with their live shots and everything to do with their opening day coverage.
But aside to the back and forth on the carts, shuttling entertainment in and out, escorting the live trucks and seeing the people line up at the front gate, the best part of the day was the opening ceremonies.
Funny story – Just before the opening ceremony I was at the Marketing/Human Resources courtyard returning one of the carts when I see three guys emerge from the Board Lounge all dressed up like the members of KISS. So, in the caffeine buzz my first thought was, “Cool…entertainers”, but there was a surprise in store.
Fair geek (me) runs to take a picture with the guys dress as KISS, flashing the ‘Rock-On’ hand sign, and after the camera shutter went click and I looked to my right to thank them, I realized the man standing next to me all dressed up and in full make-up is our Big Boss – the man who signs our paychecks – the one, the only…Tim Fennell!
Boy did I feel like a dork, but it was fun.
Tim Fennell, and board members Kelly and Barry were the KISS look-a-likes you guys saw at the opening ceremony right in front of the O’Brien Gate – you know, the one with the gigantic juke box facade. How awesome are they??
Now you know why I love working the Fair. When you have bosses that love the Fair as much as we do, you definitely know you have the best job in the world. Rock on, Boss!!!
